FC Barcelona president Juan Laporta opened up about the possibility of bringing former player Lionel Messi back to his old club.
The 60-year-old stated that he and the club will do everything to bring Leo back to Barca.
“We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona”, Laporta told the press.
The Spaniard said that he wants to build a very competitive team for which he requires Messi.
"We are working to have the possibility to build a very competitive team next season", he said. "We'll see if they [La Liga] will approve our viability plan".
Barca's president was insistent that the club can compete with everyone financially. He also talked about the relationship he shares with the seven-time Ballon D’Or winner.
“I have spoken to Messi, we’ve recovered the relationship. It was very nice,” said the 60-year-old. “Al Hilal bid? Barça is Barça. This club can compete with everyone. In Arabia they are doing a good job and investing… but I insist, Barça is his home.”
Laporta was very clear that they [Barca] will not offer any absurd amount of money.
“We want Leo — we will not offer crazy figures for that or any other deal. We’ll try to make things work with the viability plan, waiting for the approval,” he added.
“Where would Leo play? Up to Xavi, it’s never an issue with the best player in the world,” he concluded.
Currently, FCB are heavily active in the transfer market where they are looking for a number of players to strengthen their squad.
Lionel Messi, Martin Zubimendi, Ruben Neves, and Sofyan Amrabat are among the players that are linked with the Spanish club.
Messi, 35, is eyeing a move away from Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after he was suspended by the club as he traveled to Saudia Arabia without the club’s approval on May 3.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, there are no doubts about Messi leaving PSG.
“Behind the scenes, it’s now understood that Leo’s father Jorge communicated the decision to PSG already one month ago due to the project. It was the final breaking point,” Romano tweeted.
